My four magical systems, Wizardry, Shamanism, Sorcery, and Magecraft, are distinctive in how they work - that is, what people have to do in order to use them.
The most common - and also the weakest - is Wizardry. The main two drawbacks of being a Wizard are:
A.) the fact that it can only be used outdoors, and the caster has to be physically touching a natural element (hand on a tree, letting rain touch their skin, barefoot against soil, etc.) the exception being that wind can't be used as a magical conductor so while letting it whip through their hair might make them look majestic, it has no effect on their spell casting abilities whatsoever.
B.) to work magic a Wizard has to recite from memory or a spell book long, complicated incantations to preform even the smallest bits of magic.
For these reasons, most Wizards are going to be focused on long term magical projects and won't be involved too much in conflicts.
In my next post, I will continue my explination of magical systems, focusing on Shamanism, which, while being far more powerful than Wizardry is far less powerful than the other two types - as well, it has some interesting social stigmas associated with it. Stay tuned. =)
